Take Home an Original

The Canadian Children's Book Center held their annual Take Home an Original: The Art of the Picture Book Art Auction in the Great Hall at the National Art Gallery. Canada's finest Children Book Illustrators offered their original artwork in order to assist the Canadian Children's Book Center in its charitable work. The Canadian Children Book Center annually sends 35 authors, illustrators and storytellers across Canada to read to and meet with thousands of children. During Canadian Children Book Week, the Canadian Children Book Center give a great Canadian children's book to half a million students entering Grade One each year. This year, the auction had such notable Canadian Children Book Illustrators like Graham Ross, Barbara Reid, and Wallace Edwards in attendance. I was fortunate enough to attend. This was my Auction number <<
The bidding was fast and furious but I was able to walk away with a beautiful original by Janice Nadeau from her Governor-General Award-winning illustrated Children Book Ma meilleure amie which was written by Gilles Tibo. <<<

The Children's Book garnered much admiration particularly because "Janice Nadeau uses a quiet, sober approach to illustrate the delicate subject of death. Her brushstroke evokes ashes and dust, and the restrained use of colour imbues Ma meilleure amie with an emotional charge that goes straight to the heart."
