{Happy Mother's Day!} ~ The Many Faces of Motherhood

 

A series of whimsical Illustrations I did for the Ottawa Citizen celebrating the Many Faces of Motherhood.  This was a satirical, tongue-in-cheek look at mothers in all their guises.   

I was using a wet-on-wet, pen and ink application; this 'softened' the harsh pen lines making them bleed a little.  I think I was inspired by Ronald Searle who would have passages in his pen and ink where thick lines would bleed.  It made the features a little more ambiguous which hopefully added a bit more universality.  

The originals were all part of the recent Acquisition package sent to the Archives of Canada to be housed within their permanent collection.
