{Beyond Baby Blues} Postpartum depression

I was asked to produce an illustration for Canadian Health dealing with Postpartum depression on a tight deadline. Conceptually, I opted for a view of the mother as seen from the crib with the bars of the crib a metaphor for a prison in the mind. I then turned to Classical Renaissance imagery for the mother and specifically Madonna imagery by Leonardo da Vinci to further play up this incongruity between the 'ideal' versus the 'reality' of what some women experience.
